A SIMPLE SEA AREA A1 AND A2 STATION

A simple GMDSS Sea Area A1/A2 station can be put together using the equipment described previously.

A configuration diagram is shown below.

Simple A1 and A2 station

The equipment is mounted in an operator console.  One Barrett radio and one Tait VHF radio are connected to the DSC system.  The Barrett is locked on the 2 MHz DSC channel – 2187.5 kHz, and the Tait on the VHF DSC channel, channel 70.

The second Barrett MF/HF radio and the second Tait VHF radio are used for voice communications from the station - they are operated locally from the operator console.

The DSC system keyboard, monitor and mouse can either be placed on a nearby table, or mounted on a flat top console as depicted in the photo below - the photo also shows our standard operator console with Barrett control heads.

Operator console

This is another of our consoles, below - the Barrett voice radio is mounted at the bottom, with three Tait voice radios mounted on top - there is a dedicated radio for channel 16, one for the voice working channels, and the top radio is used in conjunction with a telephone interconnect.

The Barrett and Tait DSC radios are mounted behind the lower front door - the Barrett can be seen through the holes in the front of the console.  The operator desk bolts on to the front of the console.
